美国耶鲁大学Timothy R. Newhouse教授应邀来我系做学术报告

20161018日上午,美国耶鲁大学化学系Timothy R. Newhouse教授应我系邀请做了题为Mechanism-Based Methods Development for Synthesis of Neurologically Active Natural Products”的学术报告。

Newhouse教授首先简单介绍了新型全合成方法随后着重介绍了他们课题组近年来在复杂活性天然产物分子全合成方面研究工作,尤其对关键步骤立体化学和手性调控进行了精彩阐述。最后,Newhouse教授总结了有机分子全合成领域所面临的机遇和挑战。

报告吸引了理学院,材料纺织学院以及化学类相关专业教师和研究生的踊跃参加Newhouse教授精彩的报告赢得了大家热烈的掌声报告结束后,多位师生就立体化学和手性调控、目标分子选择原则等相关内容与Newhouse教授展开了热烈讨论。

 

人物名片

Timothy R. Newhouse received his B.A. in Chemistry from Colby College in 2005, and received his Ph.D. in 2010 from The Scripps Research Institute where he worked with Prof. Phil S. Baran and Prof. Donna G. Blackmond. During this time he developed a mechanistically-defined method for the amination of indoles and applied it to the synthesis of psychotrimine, psychotetramine, and the kapakahines. After completing postdoctoral studies with Prof. E.J. Corey at Harvard University, where he completed a stereo-mechanistic analysis of the Kagan titanium-mediated enantioselective sulfoxide synthesis, he began his independent career in 2013. His research focuses on using a mechanism-based approach to the development of transition-metal catalyzed carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions for the purpose of synthesizing neurologically active small molecule natural products. He has recently published on the development of a novel anilide ligand used for allyl-Pd catalysis to dehydrogenate carbonyl compounds.
